President’s Corner – June 25, 2015

I made it! I made it through the year as Rotary President that is! I can’t believe how fast this year went by. Last night’s District Banquet was my last official duty as I handed over the “Home Club of the District Governor” Banner to the incoming President of the Durham club. It was certainly an honor to be President of our Club the same year that Matthew Kane was our District Governor. It certainly added a little extra pressure, but it made my job that much more rewarding as well. My job in taking over as President was to

Good Weather for the Club Picnic

With perfect weather on the Wednesday before the picnic, we all thought for sure it would rain on picnic day but the weather held out and we had a great time. Members met at the Cedar Hills Rotary Park instead of the usual venue. Sassool had hamburgers and hot dogs instead of their usual cuisine. Stella Ray, supervisor of Total Life Center in Raleigh, was made a Paul Harris Fellow. It was a nice afternoon for Rotary.

The main reason I love this time of year though is because of all the time we get to spend with our families. I get to spend

Mr. John William Turner, Executive Director of Veterans Leadership Council of North Carolina – Cares, addressed the club Wednesday about the dire need for veteran homeless care. North Carolina is home to over 800,000 veterans and has the greatest number of active duty troops on the East Coast. President’s Corner: December 2013

After a week off to mourn the passing of my mother, it was great to get back to Rotary and the business at hand. The meeting this week was very inviting with many guest, a few returning guest, and a great speaker. It is just a matter of making them Rotarians, which they have proven to be Rotarians in spirit, we just need to make it official. The board meeting this week, which was postponed from last week, held some valuable information for the club…with some great information for club members and the community to see what Rotary is doing.

Dr. Kevin Snyder speaks to guest of Rotary networking event!

Last evening, we had a wonderful presentation from a future Rotarian, Dr. Kevin Snyder. He spoke about Leadership and it moved many of those in attendance. One of the subjects he touched on was “thinking outside the box“. He didn’t speak in traditional terms, but talked about if we are truly thinking outside the box, or is it simply lip service. He gave us a little task, which Dee Dee Heard solved, and I wanted to include it here. The task is: you must connect all of the dots, using only 4 lines without picking up your pencil. See if
