District Rotary Foundation Chair Barry Phillips

The day started off with some last minute searching for a meeting location. While all of use were acutely aware of Veteran’s Day, none of us expected Sertoma Arts Center to be closed. That’s just what we found out though. Luckily, club member Scott Tarkenton arrived at Sertoma an hour earlier than usual for a Casino Night committee meeting. He and Ed Smallwood were able to get a backup location for the meeting at Milton’s Pizza and Pasta on Six Forks Rd. Rotary Peace Fellow Discusses Work in Conflict Resolution

Dr. Dilshad Jaff spoke at the club meeting Wednesday January 28, discussing his journey to UNC Peace Center through years of working in high conflict areas of Iraq. Dr. Jaff is a Kurdish physician from the disputed territories in northern Iraq. He graduated from Baghdad College of Medicine in 2000 and completed his studies in Medical Microbiology at the University of Sulaymaniyah’s College of Medicine, located in southern Kurdistan, in 2007. November is Rotary Foundation Month

The Rotary Foundation builds peace, prevents disease, provides clean water, supports maternal and child health, promotes literacy and grows local economies. How can Rotarians do all of this? We start by contributing to the Rotary Foundation. Through a program like Rotary Direct (http://www.rotary.org/give), Rotarians can have EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year) drawn directly from their credit card. You determine the amount and frequency. Our club currently boasts several Paul Harris Society members contributing $1000 annually to the Rotary Foundation.
