What is the impact of Rotary on the world?

This is a very difficult answer to explain in such a few short paragraphs, but let’s discuss some of the ways it impacts the world. Rotary can be described as an international organization with projects throughout the world. Many of these projects are considered international projects, but in a way, they are all local projects, supported on an international level. This is the case since any project hoping to get a global matching grant needs to be a partnership with a host club, who will be instrumental in the sustainability of that project. In other words, if the Rotary Club

President’s Corner-January 2014

As we approach the last six months of my term as your president, I am amazed at all of the things we have accomplished over such a short period of time. From the donation to Operation Coming Home to the 20+ participants to the Stop Hunger Now food packing day to assisting one of our member’s with her companies food drive, it has been an amazing six months with many more great opportunities yet to come throughout the remainder of this Rotary year. Some of the wonderful projects and events that will be coming over the next month include two

Dr. Kevin Snyder speaks to guest of Rotary networking event!

Last evening, we had a wonderful presentation from a future Rotarian, Dr. Kevin Snyder. He spoke about Leadership and it moved many of those in attendance. One of the subjects he touched on was “thinking outside the box“. He didn’t speak in traditional terms, but talked about if we are truly thinking outside the box, or is it simply lip service. He gave us a little task, which Dee Dee Heard solved, and I wanted to include it here. The task is: you must connect all of the dots, using only 4 lines without picking up your pencil. See if

President’s Corner-November 2013

Wow…what an exciting meeting this week! 1Lt Nathan Rimpf is an impressive young man with an extremely positive outlook on his situation. When he said “it was just a flesh wound” it made me wonder how many of us would have the same attitude. It is a valuable lesson that we can all learn and apply to our lives. I don’t remember who said it, but the old saying, “What doesn’t kill us only makes us stronger” must have been talking about the brave, selfless men of our Armed Forces like Mr. Rimpf. The money that our club donated to Operation Coming

Another Great Week to be a Rotarian!

The North Raleigh Rotary club welcomed yet another new member this week when we introduced Matt Towler to the group. Growing is always an important aspect of the club and the addition of Matt is no different. We are thrilled to have him aboard. This meeting turned into a spontaneous club assembly as our speaker had to cancel at the last-minute to deal with a death. Nonetheless, the meeting went well and much information was covered. President Steven Nelson promoted the membership numbers. Despite a setback in the early months of the year, we are now even for the year

President’s Corner-October 2013

Where is the time going? It seems like this Rotary year just started yesterday, but here we are, already a fourth of the way through it. I guess it is true what they say, ‘Time flies when you’re having fun!’ I am definitely having fun as the president of this great club. This past weekend has been a very busy one for the club as we had two outings where we participated. First, the 2nd Annual Global Walk4Water took place this past Sunday at the WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary. I am proud to announce that we had massively increased

President’s Corner-September 2013

It is hard to believe that we are in the last month of the 1st quarter of my year as President of this great club. We have had some growing pains with the caterer and setting up of the room prior to the meetings, but all-in-all, it has been a wonderful two months and I am looking forward to another great month in September. Last month ended with the Visitor’s Day and it was a great success. We didn’t have as many visitor’s as I would have liked, but those in attendance were very impressed with Rotary and I know

North Raleigh Rotary Club Quarterly Assembly

The North Raleigh Rotary club conducted its first club assembly for the 2013-14 year. President Steven Nelson headed up the meeting and discussed the goals and the many projects that are coming up in the next several months. Outlining the goals, he reminded the membership that the goal is for every member to invite at least one potential member guest throughout the year. “If we can get at least 60 guest, we should easily be able to convert up to 25% into members, thus growing membership dramatically throughout the year”, announced President Nelson. “Membership has to be our primary focus
