November is Rotary Foundation Month

Originally posted by Erik Grunwald on Nov 01, 2014 This month’s website banner reflects that November is the Rotary Foundation Month. The Rotary Foundation builds peace, prevents disease, provides clean water, supports maternal and child health, promotes literacy and grows local economies. How can Rotarians do all of this? We start by contributing to the Rotary Foundation. Through a program like Rotary Direct (http://www.rotary.org/give), Rotarians can have EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year) drawn directly from their credit card. You determine the amount and frequency. Our club currently boasts several Paul Harris Society members contributing $1000 annually to the Rotary Foundation.

Party…Party…Party: A North Raleigh Rotary Holiday event

What a wonderful evening at the Carolina Country Club in Raleigh? Nearly 80 Rotarians and family members gathered to share the Holiday season on Wednesday, Dec. 18th.  The evening began with a social hour with a cash bar to be followed by dinner. President Steven Nelson called upon Rotarian George McGill to lead the gathered  in grace prior to the meal. The program included several presentations to members of the club with Past Presidents Mack Parker and Erik Grunwald being honored as Paul Harris Society members, which means they have committed to donate at least $1,000 a year to the

Dr. Kevin Snyder speaks to guest of Rotary networking event!

Last evening, we had a wonderful presentation from a future Rotarian, Dr. Kevin Snyder. He spoke about Leadership and it moved many of those in attendance. One of the subjects he touched on was “thinking outside the box“. He didn’t speak in traditional terms, but talked about if we are truly thinking outside the box, or is it simply lip service. He gave us a little task, which Dee Dee Heard solved, and I wanted to include it here. The task is: you must connect all of the dots, using only 4 lines without picking up your pencil. See if

President’s Corner-November 2013

Wow…what an exciting meeting this week! 1Lt Nathan Rimpf is an impressive young man with an extremely positive outlook on his situation. When he said “it was just a flesh wound” it made me wonder how many of us would have the same attitude. It is a valuable lesson that we can all learn and apply to our lives. I don’t remember who said it, but the old saying, “What doesn’t kill us only makes us stronger” must have been talking about the brave, selfless men of our Armed Forces like Mr. Rimpf. The money that our club donated to Operation Coming

A Passion for Cars…A Passion for Service: Erik Grunwald

Erik Grunwald joined the Rotary Club of North Raleigh in 2001 after a member of his church invited him to lunch one day. It was shortly after the 9-11 attack on our country. At the time, he reported that his “life really had no community involvement beyond church”, and this attack on our nation opened his eyes to helping others. With two grandfathers who were Rotarians, it seemed a perfect fit for him to join this group of business professionals trying to make a difference in the world.  While visiting the club, he saw first hand how Rotarians interacted with
