North Raleigh Rotary Recognizes 4-Way Test Winners and Scholarship Recipients

The Rotary Club of North Raleigh gave recognition to recent award recipients on Wednesday April 20th. The club heard from Stephanie Lake, Senior Director of Foundation Relations & Administration for Wake Tech, who spoke about the TC & Bill Parker Scholarships awarded to two students (a third was awarded directly by the club). Khaled Ali received $1000 towards his education and thanked the club for assistance in achieving his goals. He will be attending UNC Chapel Hill starting in the spring of 2017. Powering Up Schools in Africa

Nathan Thomas, founder of All We Are, talked about the non-profit he created and the impact it’s making on schools in Uganda. Nathan will be inducted as a member of the Raleigh Midtown Rotary Club later this month. Midtown Club President Mike Harris, and co-founder Carole Meshot accompanied Nathan to the meeting. Ryan Kane Talks About His Time in China

Ryan Kane, newly inducted Rotarian in the Midtown Club and son of District Governor Matthew Kane, spent 5 years living in China. Ryan spoke to the club on Wednesday January 21st to discuss his time in China as a teacher and working in manufacturing. Based there for five years, he taught 850 Chinese kids a week in a public school in southern China, then worked as a project manager for a Chinese shoe parts development company. All of this took place in Shenzhen, a single southern Chinese city with an economy the size of New Zealand and Panama put together.
