2017-18 Leadership Attend Rotary Training

Next year’s club President-Elect, Jason Potts and President, Mike Wienold both attended Carolina’s PETS in Greensboro March 16-18. PETS is the President Elect’s Training Seminar provided by our zone (Zone 33) and organized by our District Governors Elect. Matthew Kane, past club president and past district governor, was at the seminar as an instructor. PETS is attended by Presidents-Elect, Presidents-Nominee, Assistant Governors, Governors Nominee, Governors Nominee Designate. Using inspiring speakers and experienced discussion leaders, Carolinas’ PETS is structured to enable the participants to extract maximum benefits from the materials presented as well as from each other. Melanie Doerner talked about what’s going on at the NC Theatre. She also donated two tickets to “Jesus Christ Superstar” for our Casino Night silent auction. 2017 Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner

Once a year our club holds a fun social called Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. This year’s was March 4th. Several members are designated as hosts and the remainder of the participants are guests. Neither the hosts nor the guests know who they are dining with. Guests are given addresses the day before but no names. Members love it and say it’s a great way to get to know people you may not normally get a chance to see at meetings. Jerry Patterson, chair of the Vocational Service Awards committee, presented the 2017 award recipients with Paul Harris Fellowships. This year’s recipients were Heather Cross from Read and Feed, and Tim Gillespie from Sanderson High School. Gary Greene, Director of Civic Club Development, spoke to the club about the Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina. He talked about the beginnings of the home and what it has achieved. Hensley Scott, a board of trustees member of the home, talked about his time as a youth living at the home. Hensley is a member of the Clayton Rotary Club and is the District 7710 Chairman of Boys & Girls Club of NC. The club made its annual donation of $2000 via our “BIG” check.
