Today was President Jason Potts’ first official meeting as Club President for 2018-19. Our speaker was none other than Raleigh Midtown Rotary’s Past President and current District 7710 membership chair Nathan Thomas. Of course Nathan is also the Executive Director of All We Are, a non-profit that focuses on solarization projects in Uganda. Nathan gave the club an update on the SUN (Solarize Uganda Now!) Project.

Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world and 50% of it’s population is under 15 years of age. With help from Rotary solar power is be used for lighting, water supply and refrigeration. See Nathan’s slide presentation below for more detail.

  • Phyllis Harris picked an ace from the ever diminishing deck of cards and she contributed her winnings back to the club.
  • Past DG Matthew Kane spoke to the club about his visit to the most recent RI Convention held in Toronto. He also mentioned that he lectured about LAUNCH RALEIGH to the thousands attending.
  • Past President Jay Williams announced that his wife is pregnant with ANOTHER set of twins.
  • Kathleen Cody celebrated her birthday on the 11th.
  • Wilmington, NC Rotarian Jim Mertesdorf visited the club. He is relocating to the area and looking at local clubs. We hope he picks us!
  • Timothy Johnson visited the club as a guest of Steven Nelson. He is a Financial Planner here in Raleigh and looking into joining Rotary.
