I absolutely love the Christmas season and I always have. Of course when I was a little kid it was excitement over what new Star Wars or Ninja Turtles toys I was going to get from Santa. Now I am excited to see my kids get excited over the toys they will get from Santa Claus…..and they are Star Wars and Ninja Turtle toys! Things have a way of coming back around again…..

The main reason I love this time of year though is because of all the time we get to spend with our families. I get to spend most of next week at home with my wife and kids and I can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing. We’ll also get to see our parents and extended families. We are lucky to have all of our families close by and we’ll be able to spend a lot of time with everyone.

I am also very thankful for my Rotary family. We completed a great project this week by packaging and delivering gifts to the Total Life Center on Wednesday. We had roughly 15 Rotarians and family members meet at Sertoma to put the gifts in gift bags. Steven Dieckhaus brought pizza and drinks and it almost felt like a regular Rotary meeting. We then drove the gifts to the Center and handed them out to the residents there. They were so appreciative and thankful that we were there. I think they enjoyed the company as much as they did the gifts. It was so great to see the spouses and children of Rotarians there as well to take part in the project. I can’t wait for my kids to be old enough to participate in something like this. It really makes you appreciate all that you have and understand the true meaning of Christmas.

Later that night we had our annual Holiday Banquet at the Carolina Country Club. The food and atmosphere was excellent as always. The best part of the night though was probably our speaker, the owner of Homewood Nursery in Raleigh. He told us all about his family and the history of the nursery. We learned a ton about poinsettias – who knew there were so many varieties? A big thanks to Scott Tarkenton for lining him up to be our speaker. It really was the perfect choice for the program that night.

And now we have a couple of weeks off before we meet again and get the 2nd half of the Rotary year started. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to seeing everyone in January!
