I grew up in Winston-Salem where both of my parents encouraged me to be involved in the community by taking us to volunteer at the local Soup Kitchen, join art classes at the Sawtooth Center and Reynolda House, and participate in sports leagues. In 2010, I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a double major in Spanish and Religious Studies. Interested in developing a career in Foreign Service, I worked at several international non-profits after graduating, one of which took me to Nairobi, Kenya. I helped match children orphaned by AIDS with domestic and international adoptive parents. Unfortunately, my time and my interest in Foreign Service were cut short in Kenya when the country went to war with Somalia and Nairobi became increasingly dangerous. Once I returned to the US, I worked for the State Employees’ Credit Union in Winston-Salem and Raleigh, developing my latent interest in personal financial management, and decided to go back to school for a Master’s in Business Administration. While attending graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I was a board member for The Road Home (TRH) Dane County. TRH helped families experiencing homelessness find stable housing. I was also the President of the UW MBA Toastmasters. Toastmasters is an international organization that helps individuals develop and hone their public-speaking skills. In May 2017, I completed my MBA in Corporate Finance and Investment Banking. I moved back to Raleigh and am a Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch. I continue to serve the community as a board member for the United Arts Council of Wake County and the Women’s Giving Network of Wake County. In my free time, I make pottery at Sertoma Arts Center, bike the Greenway, play with my dog, Winnie, and visit local breweries with my husband, Corey.
