David L. Hayden 2020-20212020-2021 District GovernorRotary District 7710
David Hayden is a retired Army Colonel who served his country for over 29 years as both an Engineer and Judge Advocate Generals Corps Officer. Highlights of his service include serving as an Engineer Company Commander, Senior Attorney for the 82nd Airborne Division, and later for Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and the XVIII Airborne Corps. In response to the terrorist attack of 9/11, Colonel Hayden deployed to Afghanistan in 2002-2003 as the Senior Legal Advisor to the Theater Commander. In his final JAG assignment, he was the Senior Legal Advisor to NORAD and the United States Northern Command before retiring in 2005 and moving to Raleigh, North Carolina. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, The National War College, The University of Texas School of Law, and holds an MBA from North Carolina State. After retirement, he served as a Federal Prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and as the General Counsel for US Falcon, Inc. He currently practices law with the Smith Anderson Law Firm in Downtown Raleigh, primarily practicing in government contracting. He also serves on other non-profit Boards, including The North Carolina Heroes Fund, The North Carolina Defense Business Association, The Veterans Life Center, and The North Carolina Bar Association’s Military & Veterans Law Section. He also serves as a Rotary Assistant District Governor for Area 10 in Rotary District 7710.
David joined The Capital City Rotary Club in 2006 and has served in various positions, including President in 2013-14, during which year his Club saw the highest membership growth and diversity. David is currently in his third year serving as Assistant Governor of Area 10, supporting the seven Raleigh Clubs. A big shout out to our Assistant District Governor, Gina Eaves, for attending. David is a graduate of Rotary Leadership Institute, and brings passion and the proven and demonstrated leadership, in both the Army and Rotary which he brings to his position as our District Governor 2020-21.
