Tom White, Director of the Economic Development Partnership at NC State, was our speaker Wednesday November 30th. Tom serves as a liaison to local, regional and state economic developers and workforce development practitioners to connect NC State faculty, staff and students with new and expanding industry. His duties include implementing the Industry Clusters strategy statewide, chairing the UNC-General Administration Economic Transformation Council, and coordinating both corporate recruitment and retention/expansion activities with several governmental agencies. NC Mental Health Care Issues

Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman talked to the club about mental health in North Carolina. She serves on the Governor’s Task Force on mental health and substance abuse and the executive committee of the NC Conference of District Attorneys. Untreated or under treated mental health disorders affect the justice system significantly because sufferers are often incarcerated as a result. There are programs being rolled out to help those with mental health problems get treatment without going to jail.
