Rotary Peace Fellow Discusses Work in Conflict Resolution

Dr. Dilshad Jaff spoke at the club meeting Wednesday January 28, discussing his journey to UNC Peace Center through years of working in high conflict areas of Iraq. Dr. Jaff is a Kurdish physician from the disputed territories in northern Iraq. He graduated from Baghdad College of Medicine in 2000 and completed his studies in Medical Microbiology at the University of Sulaymaniyah’s College of Medicine, located in southern Kurdistan, in 2007. Ryan Kane Talks About His Time in China

Ryan Kane, newly inducted Rotarian in the Midtown Club and son of District Governor Matthew Kane, spent 5 years living in China. Ryan spoke to the club on Wednesday January 21st to discuss his time in China as a teacher and working in manufacturing. Based there for five years, he taught 850 Chinese kids a week in a public school in southern China, then worked as a project manager for a Chinese shoe parts development company. All of this took place in Shenzhen, a single southern Chinese city with an economy the size of New Zealand and Panama put together.

Pat Riley Discusses the Present and Future of Real Estate in the Carolinas

The main speaker Wednesday was Pat Riley. Mr. Riley is COO of Allen Tate Realtors, a Carolinas based real estate firm with offices throughout North and South Carolina. Several club members are associates of Allen Tate. Mr. Riley presented the club with a state of the market in the Triangle area. He showed data from the years through the recession and how things look now as the market starts to recover.

The program, which offers Rotary education and training, was attended by 3 North Raleigh club members. Mike Wienold, Scott Tarkenton and Mathew Kane all attended the RLI program in Cary. RLI is a three part program (Level 1, 2, 3), each level taking a deeper dive into Rotary leadership development topics. Courses were fun and interactive.
