Submitted by Dee Dee Heard – It was announced months ago that the 72nd Annual District 7710 Conference would be held in New Bern, North Carolina on April 24-26, 2015. That is all the information that the Rotary Club of North Raleigh needed. We knew there would be a party; now we knew when and where it would be.
It is customary for our Club to have a Club dinner event the Friday evening of the conference. Now the place can be selected and the planning can begin. The place: Persimmons Waterfront Restaurant. The plan: an assortment of appetizers to be served in a private room.
A second floor private room for 30 was booked and the appetizer menu selections were made. NOW, all we had to do is wait and see how many members and guests would be attending. The Conference registrations were watched carefully and the Conference was plugged at our lunch meetings. There was some fear that we would have a room for 30 and only have 15 attend; as time went on, there was fear that more than 30 members and guests would want to attend the Club dinner. When all was said and done, we had exactly 30 members and guests at the Club dinner on April 24.
The room had window seats, tables and chairs as well as a private balcony with seating. The wait staff took drink orders and the food began to arrive. We drank, ate, talked, laughed, and enjoyed the waterfront setting and our time together.
Best of all, our club member and District Governor Matthew Kane was able to work his schedule of obligations to be with us. Matthew and his wife Sonia joined their Club family for a meal and fellowship.
A great time was had by all. Then it was on to getting some rest in preparation for the Saturday morning Conference session, a free afternoon to enjoy New Bern, and of course the gala affair of the Governor’s Banquet.
